Halloween Camp Out 2012

My friend Christine and I camped out to get our reservations for this camp out last January 1st. We got the two camp sites that we wanted. We had 7 families this year. It was a little chilly at night, but the days were gorgeous.

All girl hike.

Alison and Jessie looked for places that Fairies might hide.

Our Super Hero line up.

We grabbed a neighbor from another campsite to grab this shot, we are missing a few of the adults though.

Roller skating at the camp site. Alison borrowed skates from Jessie,
she has asked for a pair of skates every day since.

D1 and D2.

Camp Fire Bloopers.

The Boy Trailer.

Fishing Trip with Grampie

We were supposed to go on a fishing trip to Florida in early September, but Hurricane Isaac messed up our plans. Our trip was rescheduled to this weekend. We drove down late afterschool so that we would be able to get up and have an early start fishing. I was originally planning on going along for the drive and hanging out and reading in our room at Spicer's Motel and Bait Camp. Dad talked to our guide Captain Kevin and I was able to go along on the boat and take pictures.

Silhouette of Alison.

It took us a while to find the fish, but the kids did not mind. They had fun casting their lines and just being on the boat.

The sunrise from the boat was gorgeous.
Grampie and the kids on the boat, that is Captain Kevin in the background.

Patrick's first fish. He was spending more time admiring it than posing for me.
Alison's fish was not staying very still for her, and it was very heavy, she was afraid that she was going to drop it.
As the sun came up and the mosquitos went away, they kids were able to take off the extra coats.
Both asked to take the life jackets off, but they did not make to much of a fuss when we told them it was a law for kids to wear them in the boat.
I tried to catch a moment between Ali and Grampie, I swear she knows when the camera is around. She was leaning in talking to Grampie, but she caught me and had to turn to pose.
Craig's fish fought hard and broke the fishing pole. The final count at the end of the day was two fishing poles broken and quite a few snapped lines.
I love watching my two kids working together. Patrick is reeling in a fish and
Alison is at the ready with the net.

The kids still found time to goof around and be silly.

Alison helping captain Kevin drive the boat.

The kids took time off from fishing to play with a crab.
This year Patrick even touched it.
Patrick caught the biggest fish of the day. It was 33 1/2 inches and over 14 lbs.

Patrick loved driving the boat.
Kevin heard us talking about buying shrimp on the way home, so he called one of his friends. The kids loved it when we pulled up next to a Shrimp Boat named Southern Comfort to buy a 5 gallon bucket of shrimp.

The kids had a lot of fun playing with and posing the fish before Captain Kevin cleaned them for us.

Patrick could not leave the shrimp alone. Alison even got in on the fun.
I tried to get Patrick to pose in this one too, but he was tired of me and the camera.
Patrick, Alison and Grampie with the 14 Red Fish that we kept. We had to throw back at least 25 fish that were too big.
Still playing with the fish.
A few of the fish had the mouth wide open, Alison was fascinated looking inside them.

I am so glad that we were able to go fishing with the kids and my dad. The kids have both written about the trip on their own blogs. Both kids have had message their favorite pictures to their iPods. I have heard both of them talking to friends about how much fun they had. Captain Kevin gave us a business card with his Website information, Patrick has already placed a direct link to the website on his browser toolbar.

If you are planning to go to Louisiana for fishing, look Captain Kevin Broussard up. Our family enjoying his website and videos. The kids are already asking if we are going again next year.
